ACT Woman of the Year and Honour Roll

For women and gender diverse people who’ve made an outstanding contribution to the lives of women and girls in the ACT.

The ACT Women’s Awards recognise women and gender diverse people who have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of women and girls in the ACT.

The Honour Roll is a digital list of women and gender diverse people who’ve made significant and lasting contributions in Canberra, Australia and/or internationally.

All nominations are considered for both the Honour Roll and the Awards.

Who can nominate?

Temporary residents, refugees, people with disability, transgender women, non-binary people, and other gender diverse people over 16 years are eligible, and nominations are encouraged.

Nominees need to live or work in the ACT and surrounding areas.

Women may be recognised for paid or unpaid work.

Public servants may be considered for going 'above and beyond' in their paid role, or for their work as private citizens.

You can’t nominate yourself.

Award categories

There are 3 award categories:

  • ACT Woman of the Year
  • ACT Young Woman of the Year (aged 16 to 25)
  • ACT Senior Woman of the Year (aged over 60)

There are many different things people can be nominated for. Some examples include:

  • leading volunteering projects
  • creating groups at work, school or in the community to support women and girls’ participation
  • helping women participate in areas that are traditionally dominated by men
  • empowering women to embrace their identity
  • helping women and girls enter leadership roles
  • working to improve women’s safety
  • working to make Canberra more inclusive for women from diverse backgrounds, with different abilities and experiences

You can nominate women who have made significant and lasting contributions in their field of expertise.

How do we choose a winner?

The Assessment Panel will consider the following when assessing the nominations:

  • significant contribution to the lives of women and girls living in Canberra
  • achievements in the year immediately prior to nomination as well as past achievements and ongoing contribution
  • demonstrated excellence in their field
  • innovation, future goals and likely impact
  • impact as an inspirational role model.

All nominations submitted will be considered for both the Honour Roll and the Awards.

Nominees whose contributions only have impacts outside the ACT will only be considered for the Honour Roll.

Award winners and finalists are automatic inductees to the Honour Roll.
