Becoming a community housing provider

Find out how to get registered as a provider of community housing in the ACT.

National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH) makes sure organisations that operate community housing are:

  • well governed
  • well managed
  • financially viable
  • able to meet the needs of community housing tenants.

Applying

Your organisation can register as a community housing provider through the NRSCH website.

For help to apply, you can contact us.

There are 2 stages in the registration process:

  1. Get assessed for eligibility – your organisation will be checked against the requirements to become a community housing provider.
  2. Apply for registration – your organisation must show how it will meet the standards and requirements for operating as a community housing provider.

Getting assessed

After you apply, the ACT Human Services Registrar will assess your organisation against the National Regulatory Code.

The assessment process can take up to 5 months.

After you’re registered

Your organisation can operate in the ACT, NSW, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

The ACT Human Services Registrar will monitor your organisation to make sure it maintains ongoing compliance with the National Regulatory Code.

Every 1 or 2 years your organisation must report how it is meeting the requirements of the National Regulatory Code.

The Registrar will also investigate any complaints against your organisation.
