This scheme is open to eligible allied health professionals to apply for scholarships in postgraduate study, particularly in areas that have staff shortages.

Receiving a scholarship means you'll get funding for tuition fees.

How much funding depends on:

  • how many people apply
  • how much you request
  • how much budget is available.

How scholarships are paid

You will be reimbursed at the end of each satisfactorily completed semester or semesters of study.

Who can apply

You must have permanent employment or a continuous temporary contract for at least 12 months before the application closing date with any of the following:

  • Canberra Health Services
  • ACT Health Directorate
  • North Canberra Hospital.

You must also be employed in one of the eligible allied health professions listed below and have a minimum of 2 years full time post-qualification work experience in the related field of practice, or equivalent for part-time staff.

You can't apply if you have received an allied health postgraduate scholarship leading to an award level study program in the last 2 years.

  • analytical scientist - forensic chemist, environmental chemist, microbiologist, forensic toxicologist
  • audiologist
  • biomedical engineer
  • cardiac perfusionist
  • cardiac scientist
  • cardiac sonographer
  • clinical neurophysiology scientist
  • counsellor
  • creative arts therapist
  • dental practitioner (allied health) - dental prosthetist, dental therapist, oral health therapist
  • dietitian
  • environmental health scientist
  • epidemiologist
  • exercise physiologist
  • genetic counsellor
  • medical laboratory scientist
  • medical physicist
  • music therapist
  • nuclear medicine technologist
  • occupational therapist
  • orthoptist
  • pharmacist
  • physiotherapist
  • play therapist
  • podiatrist
  • prosthetist and orthotist
  • psychologist
  • public health officer
  • radiation therapist
  • radiographer
  • respiratory scientist
  • sleep scientist
  • social worker
  • sonographer
  • speech pathologist.

Eligible courses

The focus of eligible courses must be:

  • clinical practice
  • health professional education
  • health service management and leadership
  • research or data science.

You must also demonstrate how your course is relevant to or will contribute to your organisation's core values and strategic priorities.

Research or data science advice

The Health Analytics Research Collaborative (HARC) provides advice and connects students with potential mentors, projects and courses.

HARC is a collaboration between ACT Health Directorate and its academic partners focused on health data science, and research methods and analytics in both qualitative and quantitative areas.

In Canberra it's associated with the Biologic Data Science Institute, Population Health at the Australian National University, and the University of Canberra.

Referees

You must have two referee reports from senior professionals. Referees must be at HP3 classification, or equivalent, and above.

You must gain support for your application from your current line manager. They must complete one of your two referee reports.

All referees will automatically be sent a link to their referee report when you submit your application. Referee reports must be completed prior to the closing date.

Applications for scholarships to study in 2024 are now closed.

Applications for scholarships to study in 2025 will open in November 2024.
