Gungahlin is one of the fastest growing regions in the country and this growth is expected to continue with the establishment of suburbs such as Taylor and Kenny. Gungahlin is popular for young families, and the region will benefit from the 2021-22 ACT Budget with a range of infrastructure and school upgrades.

The Budget is the next stage of the Government’s plan to support Canberrans through the pandemic and recover from this once-in-a-generation crisis.

Funding has been provided for the detailed design and construction of a community recreation park in Casey and will consider the informal sport, recreation, and health needs of the local community.

Work will also continue on the Throsby Home of Football project with funding for engineering and civil works.

A new Joint Emergency Service Centre will be built in the Gungahlin Town Centre, with funding allocated for the fit-out of new premises for the State Emergency Service (SES) and Rural Fire Service (RFS), refurbishment of space for ACT Policing and design work for new premises for the ACT Ambulance Service.

Families and pooches of Gungahlin will enjoy a new dog park in Franklin as well as an upgraded playground in Ngunnawal. The ACT Government will be engaging with the community on what these upgrades could look like.

Other improvements to suburban infrastructure are also on the way with funding provided for feasibility and design works for increased car parking, picnic, and toilet facilities in the urban open space surrounding Yerrabi Pond. These upgrades were suggested following a recent community consultation.

Improvements to education in the region include funding to commence the next phase of procurement for the Margaret Hendry Primary School expansion and the new Taylor High School.

The 2021-22 ACT Budget will also provide funding to deliver road infrastructure on the perimeter of the proposed Kenny High School site, previously known as East Gungahlin High School, which is scheduled to open in January 2023.
