Within one of Gungahlin’s newest suburbs, the ACT’s 90th and third all-electric school has hosted its official naming ceremony.

Influenced by its surroundings, the Throsby School has been designed with a strong focus on sustainability.

Solar panels on the school’s roof will provide about a quarter of the school’s anticipated annual energy needs, and a 220,000-litre tank will collect rainwater to irrigate the grounds.

The school also features indoor and outdoor learning spaces, support areas for students with specialised needs, a multipurpose double gymnasium, a community hall with kitchenette, sports fields, and change-room facilities.

The new school’s facilities are also available for the growing community to use outside of school hours.

Throsby School welcomed its first students earlier this year and is already teaching more than 200 pupils from pre-school to year 6. As the community grows and more families settle into the region, the school will expand to its capacity of 450 students.

More information about the Throsby School and enrolment details are available on the school’s website.
