In brief

  • These include upgrades at shopping centres and new transport measures.
  • There is also investment in maintaining the city’s public and green spaces.
  • This article gives an overview of how the funding will be allocated.

The 2026–27 ACT Budget will invest in suburban infrastructure, frontline city services, parks and natural spaces.

This includes shopping centre upgrades at Kingston, Chisholm, Cooleman Court and Kippax.

The upgrades will improve public spaces at the shops with:

  • new seating
  • lighting
  • crossings
  • paving and landscaping
  • other improvements.

The Budget will provide funding to build a new active travel path between Hall and Gold Creek. Hall Village will also receive new stormwater infrastructure.

Further investments in suburban infrastructure include a new public toilet for the Umbagong District Park.

The Government will also progress to the next stage of the future Belconnen to City Transitway.

The next step is to create detailed designs of bus priority measures along Haydon Drive and Belconnen Way.

Investing in essential city services

The Budget will improve local amenity and support the ongoing care of the city’s public and green spaces.

It will also support effective and responsive city services, including:

  • mowing
  • street sweeping
  • horticultural services.

This will ensure Canberra’s green spaces remain well maintained and cared for.

Further to this, the Government will fund new murals on major road corridors.

The Budget will also continue to support bushfire risk reduction in our city’s nature reserves and parks, including:

  • fire trail maintenance
  • prescribed burns
  • vegetation maintenance.

Access Canberra will receive funding to support the ongoing delivery of high-quality, responsive frontline services for Canberra's growing population.
