Many new restaurants and cafes have opened in Canberra over the last 12 months. We've rounded up 30 new spots to try in the capital:
Central Canberra
7 Cutz Steakhouse, Canberra City
This new steakhouse offers a range of premium steaks, ribs, fresh seafood, and great wine.
The steaks are cooked on an open fire and served with their signature BBQ basting.
38 Katsu, Canberra City
You might recall trying Katsu at Verity Lane. They've now got their own place on Bunda Street.
The restaurant serves premium, delicious Japanese-style katsu.
Azuma Den, Kingston
Azuma Den is a new restaurant at East Hotel.
It is a Korean- Japanese restaurant with menu highlights such as wagyu tartare tacos, Korean fried chicken and flamed scallops.
Back Lane Bird, Canberra City
A chicken shop has opened in Odgers Lane serving up wings, burgers, chips & gravy and more.
Perfect for those late-night cravings, Back Lane Bird is open Thursday to Saturday 9 pm to 3 am.
Bella Pizza, Braddon
There’s a new pizza spot in Braddon specialising in Neapolitan-style pizzas.
Bella Pizza is serving up pizzas made with 24-hour fermented, hand-stretched dough then woodfired to perfection!
Menu highlights include the capricosa, an Italian sausage & potato and a roasted mushrooms & basil pesto pizza.
Bocca by Frankie B's, Canberra City
Bocca is a family-style Italian restaurant opening soon in the old Kinn Thai spot on Bunda Street.
Enjoy woodfired pizzas, a variety of pastas and other traditional Italian dishes.
Contentious Character, Kingston
Contentious Character is not new to Canberra but has recently moved from Dairy Road to a spot on the Kingston Foreshore.

Curiosa Wine Bar, Canberra City
This new Italian-inspired venue is perfect for your next group outing, offering share plates and a curated wine list.

Dark Horse, Campbell
Dark Horse is a new euro-fusion café located at Campbell shops in the old Teddy Pickers space.
The café is serving alfresco coffee, breakfast and lunch. Menu items include bacon and egg rolls, burgers, pasta and more.
Eve, Kingston
The owner of Queenies in Kingston has opened a new fine dining restaurant just a few doors down.
The menu will change regularly, and like Queenies, it is entirely gluten-free.
Hunter & Barrel, Canberra City
A new steak restaurant has opened in the former Carlotta space.
Each steak is cooked on an open grill, giving them a distinct smoky, charred flavour. They also offer other meat options including lamb and chicken skewers, pork belly, wings, tacos and more.
The interior of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, with soft lighting and panoramic artwork inspired by Canberra’s landscape.
Johnny Gio’s, Braddon
A new pizza shop has opened in Braddon offering pick-up and catering options.
The pizza is hand-stretched in store and cooked in a brick oven.
Kinn Thai, Canberra City
This beloved Thai restaurant is not new to Canberra, but it does have a beautiful new space located in a different part of the city.
Find the new Kinn Thai off Bunda Street near UNIQLO.
Lager House, Campbell
The Capital Brewing team has opened a new pub in Campbell.
Lager House is serving up seasonal lagers alongside local wines and classic cocktails. The food menu includes pub classics, chargrilled meats and share plates.
Lava Coffee, Campbell
Lava opens a café and kiosk in the new East Traders Hall in Campbell tomorrow.
Oh My Papa, Canberra City
Oh My Papa will open soon in the former Kinn Thai space.
It will be a multi-level dining and bar venue, complete with a rooftop bar.
Shahi Mandi & Biryani, Dickson
Inner north residents can now enjoy authentic Arabian and Indian Cuisine in the heart of Dickson.
Keep an eye out for their weekend specials starting from $15.
Stacks Sandwich & Coffee Bar, Canberra City
Find Stacks in the former &Sando space on Bunda Street.
The sandwich spot Is open for lunch daily between 11 am and 2 pm. They offer coffee, generously sized sandwiches and delicious pastries.
Sliceria, Campbell
Sliceria has opened a second location inside the new East Traders Hall.
Choose from a range of Roman-style and New York-style slices, Tuscan-style sandwiches, pasta and more.
VICE Restaurant, Canberra City
VICE is a new steak restaurant located in Odgers Lane.
The restaurant specialises in rib eye on the bone reversed-seared. Pair it with one of their delicious starters or sides.
If you’re keen to try VICE, visit Tuesday to Saturday 12-3 pm and you can enjoy their lunch special for $25.
Yo-Bar, Canberra City
Yo-Bar is adding a sweet treat spot to the space taking over what was the old Kinn Thai venue.
It will serve frozen yoghurt and customisable desserts.

Giannis Italian, Belconnen
Gianni’s opened earlier this year, serving up delicious pastas, pizzas and more in the heart of Belconnen.
The new restaurant is the sister restaurant of Briscola Italian in the city.
After dinner, make sure to swing by the gelato bar next door for a sweet treat.
Ground & Graze, Belconnen
A new cafe has opened on Grazier Lane in Belconnen.
Ground & Graze is openly daily until 2 pm, serving coffee, breakfast and lunch.
Palmer’s, Gungahlin
Palmer’s is a new gastro pub offering hearty meals and a great beer garden.
With weekly specials it’s the perfect spot for family dinners, or to catch up with friends and watch the footy.
Zeus Street Greek, Gungahlin
Zeus Street Greek has opened a new location at Gungahlin.
The restaurant offers Greek favourites including pita wraps, salads and rice bowls.
South Canberra
Adore Tea, Woden
Adore Tea has opened a new location in Philip.
The menu includes sweet breakfast options such as waffles, scones and pastries or savoury lunch options like burgers, toasties and pastas.
There is also a three-course high tea available.
Asteri Taverna, Mawson
Asteri is a new Greek restaurant located at Swinger’s Hill shops.
Enjoy delicious seafood and traditional Greek dishes with authentic flavours straight from the family herb garden.
Menu highlights include saganaki and baked lamb shoulder.
Big Box Barbeque, Narrabundah
Meat lovers rejoice: a new Texas-inspired food joint has opened in Canberra.

Kivotos, Hellenic Club, Woden
Kivotos has opened a second venue at the Hellenic Club in Woden.
The Greek wine bar and restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily. You can also enjoy an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet every Sunday for $59 per adult.
La Veera, Lyons
Lyons has a new local cafe. La Veera has taken over the former Stand By Me space.
La Veera is open for breakfast and lunch daily. They are serving up Australian breakfast stapes like eggs benedict, avocado toast and lunch classics including burgers, salads and more.
