The ACT Government's FY24 Budget is investing $60.55 million over six years in City Renewal Authority-led projects to upgrade streetscapes, improve connections, and construction of the Acton Waterfront park, fostering our City Centre, Braddon and Dickson as attractive destinations for locals and visitors.
A major public realm upgrade in Garema Place will create a modern and exciting dining and retail precinct in the City Centre. The works will make the space greener, safer and more comfortable with new garden beds, more seating and warm lighting.

The public realm surrounding Dickson’s shops will also be improved following consultation on draft designs set for late 2023. The Authority will also plan and design for targeted upgrades in City Walk, Alinga Street West, Cooyong Street between Civic and Braddon and streets in the heart of Dickson.
Improvements to the public realm will make it easier for our growing population to walk throughout the City Centre to destinations like the Canberra Theatre Centre, Braddon and the future UNSW campus.
City Renewal Authority CEO Malcolm Snow said the upgrades will transform key locations in the City Centre to support Canberra’s growing population and local businesses.
“Our renewal projects are shaping perceptions of our City Centre as an attractive destination for both locals and visitors,” Mr Snow said. “Targeted upgrades will facilitate active transport, support businesses and improve connections across the City Centre”.
“We are thrilled with the positive response to recent upgrades in City Walk and Woolley Street in Dickson, and look forward to the next stages of our revitalisation of the city precinct.”

Funding will also see construction begin on the new lakeside park at Acton Waterfront. The new park will be a major destination for locals and tourists, fostering our City Centre as a beautiful place to live, work and visit.
“The Acton Waterfront project is creating a new city neighbourhood and public park that will be enjoyed for generations to come,” Mr Snow said.
“The park will feature cafes and pavilions, accessible public toilets, a large new playground and event lawns. I forward to seeing it become a bustling meeting place for locals and visitors in the coming years.”
