A new report has been released featuring community ideas and feedback on how to create a thriving and inclusive space for arts, culture and community in the City Centre.

The Listening Report summarises ideas and suggestions from 46 survey participants on a concept on how to revitalise the future of the Canberra Civic and Cultural District.

The public consultation – which took place between 13 February and 8 April 2024 – explored community wants, needs and aspirations for the District.

The Authority’s Executive Branch Manager Development Geoff Bunnett said the key insights from the community will help shape the District into ‘something spectacular’.

“We were thrilled to see that many Canberrans share our vision for a world-class civic and culture district,” Mr Bunnett said.

“We believe it can become the heart and soul of the City Centre – a place that is exciting, functional and culturally meaningful.

“These report findings will assist in shaping the development masterplan for the District.”

The Authority’s concept for the Canberra Civic and Cultural District incorporates planned future development in the District, including the planned Canberra Theatre Centre redevelopment and new 2000-seat theatre.

This concept was further developed through targeted stakeholder engagements inviting input from the arts and tourism industry, education organisations, government agencies and First Nations peoples.
