Nature, play and culture: New report outlines community ideas for City Hill park

City Renewal Authority / 02 May 2024

The City Renewal Authority has today released a report featuring ideas from more than 650 community members on how to make City Hill park a more welcoming and enticing public space.

The Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Snow said the overwhelming response highlights Canberrans’ views of City Hill as a symbolic but underused place in the heart of Canberra.

“The City Hill Ideas Exhibition and survey has captured the imagination of Canberrans and resulted in a wealth of ideas and creative designs for the four-hectare park,” Mr Snow said.

“It shows that people care about the future of City Hill park and want to inform the role it plays in our City Centre’s ongoing renewal.”

Mr Snow also highlighted the community’s eagerness to protect the park’s heritage while also supporting a range of new and different uses.

“The community ideas have been considered and insightful in the way they integrated features like nature play areas, paths, cafés and performance spaces in the existing City Hill landscape,” Mr Snow said.

“We look forward to sharing next steps once we have fully considered these ideas and defined a clear vision for City Hill that reflects both community feedback and its important heritage.”
