Place Experience and Marketing Action Plan 2023 - 2024

City Renewal Authority / 31 Jul 2023

Canberrans and visitors are in for a treat with so many events and activities happening across the City Renewal Precinct over the year to come. We’ve been working with local businesses and property owners to bring more people into the heart of Canberra with an exciting program outlined in our recently released Place Experience & Marketing Action Plan for 2023-24.

The program includes something for everyone in the community. There will be multicultural events, late-night parades, holiday celebrations, and more!

Bringing even more life and energy to public spaces, here will be enjoyable activities for children during the school holidays in Glebe Park. Even our furry friends will have something special with Paws Parties in Haig Park.

Expressions of interest for the 2023-24 Placemaking Grants program recently closed, and you can expect plenty of creative and innovative ideas to support placemaking projects in Canberra's City Centre.

The most recent round of grant recipients Including PeopleLab, Poetic City Canberra and Jazida Productions hosted some truly inspiring events that enhanced people’s experience of the city’s public spaces and fostered genuine community engagement.

Along with all of the events and activities that you know and love, the program of activities will expand to create great experiences in emerging public spaces such as Acton Waterfront. With the Woolley Street upgrade now complete, Dickson Christmas activities and Lunar New Year celebrations are set to be better than ever, bringing visitors from far and wide to enjoy a kaleidoscope of colour, sounds and tastes.

With 24,000 people attending Winter in the City this year contributing almost $1.8 million in local economic activity, we can look forward to another successful event next year.

The City Renewal Authority’s Director of Place Experience Jennifer Ramsay said, "the program for this year aims to inspire residents to increase their visits, stay longer, and enjoy premium retail and diverse entertainment experiences offered in the City Renewal Precinct."

“There’s so much to see and do all year round and we’re excited to continue our work with local business and partners to achieve great social and economic outcomes that ultimately benefit all of Canberra.”

Besides all the fun events, we'll also keep public spaces clean, easy to navigate, and safe. Acting on feedback from property and business owners in the City Centre, we have committed to more new furniture, lighting, paths and signage as well as making way for more outdoor dining options. All of which contribute to feelings of safety and inclusiveness and making the City Centre a great place people love visiting.
