Winter event brings more than $2.72 million in expenditure activity for City Centre businesses

More than 12,000 people visited the fire performances and more than 30,000 people took to the ice and snow play at this year’s Winter in the City: Fire and Ice.

From the park to the place, the City Centre came alive over the school holidays, bringing a welcome spending boost to local businesses.

The expanded event, produced by the City Renewal Authority, contributed $2.72 million in expenditure activity. Crowds enjoyed ice skating in the beautiful landscape of Glebe Park, epic fire performances in Garema Place and exciting offers at some of the City Centre’s best cafes, restaurants and retail shops.

‘Fire’ took a front seat in this year’s event, with 200 to 400 people attending each of the three nightly shows in Garema Place. With 48 shows in total, there was plenty of excitement to get audiences fired up before they filled the surrounding restaurants and bars.

This year’s digital What’s On Guide showcased the City Centre and Braddon’s best business offers. Canberrans and visitors took advantage of great winter deals, entertainment and activities with more than 50 businesses getting involved and more than 2000 offers redeemed.

The Authority’s advertising campaign clocked more than 5 million impressions, driving visitors within Canberra’s regional tourism market to enjoy the city spectacle.

It’s all part of the Authority’s Place Experience and Marketing program, which drives visitation to the City Centre, Braddon and Dickson throughout the year.
