  • Canberra Theatre Centre expansion and redevelopment
  • Modernising Narrabundah College
  • Improvements to Coranderrk Street and Parkes Way roundabout to support light rail construction

A range of infrastructure upgrades in the inner north, City and inner south will be funded through the 2021-22 ACT Budget as part of the Territory’s largest ever infrastructure program, including upgrades to schools, cultural facilities, and active travel networks.

The Budget is the next stage of the Government’s plan to support Canberrans through the pandemic and recover from this once-in-a-generation crisis.

The Canberra Theatre Centre and Canberra Museum and Gallery will both receive investment for the expansion of both cultural facilities, including design work and the fit out of vacant spaces.

To support the construction of light rail to Woden, immediate improvements will be made to Coranderrk Street and the Parkes Way roundabout, a project that will create and protect local jobs and improve traffic flow along Parkes Way during peak hours.

Record investments in public education will see work begin on the design to improve and modernise Narrabundah College, and an upgrade to the O’Connor Cooperative School kindergarten courtyard. Students will have input on what they would like to see in the new courtyard which will provide a space to play and learn.

Funding has been allocated for a feasibility study and the design of a new garden city cycle route which will mirror the busy Sullivans Creek path by connecting Watson, Dickson, Ainslie, Braddon and Turner with the City along the eastern side of Northbourne Avenue.

Local shopping centres will also receive funding including construction funding for Campbell shops and centre upgrades for Narrabundah.

Reid and O’Connor will also see upgrades to pathways as part of the Age Friendly Suburbs Program.

Beltana and Kallaroo roads will also be upgraded to improve pedestrian and traffic infrastructure within Pialligo for the benefit of residents and visitors to the popular area. This will be jointly funded with the Commonwealth Government.

Investments will also be made at Manuka Oval to install a new video scoreboard and funding for the construction of three permanent toilet blocks.

The 2021-22 ACT Budget provides funding for design and consultation to transform the Acton Waterfront into a place for people in the heart of the city.

Stormwater upgrades in Narrabundah and Civic will keep our community and infrastructure safe by protecting both from flooding.
