PJ O’Reilly’s Tuggeranong is one of many Canberra venues using ACT Government funding to contribute to our city’s live entertainment sector.

More than 15 live music venues have shared in over $500,000 as part of the second round of Amp It Up! grants.

Developed in 2021, the fund aims to offset the costs of booking, hosting, and promoting live music and performances, combating the impacts of the pandemic to revitalise the territory’s night economy.

Through an applications process, funding is allocated to small and medium sized venues to accommodate live entertainment options, in turn supporting local technicians, musicians and other performance artists.

Among the successful applicants is PJ O’Reilly’s Tuggeranong, who are putting the funding towards their monthly entertainment schedule.

“We’re trying to develop a bit of atmosphere for people to enjoy and the funding is helping us subsidise the costs involved with putting on our entertainment,” PJ’s owner Bill Wojtaszak said.

“We have entertainment every night with the exception of Sundays and Mondays, with live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Each month we also host a bigger act.”
