  • New health centre
  • Upgrades to Calwell High School
  • Improvements at Calwell netball courts

With the ACT the fastest growing jurisdiction in Australia, the 2023-24 ACT Budget is investing in the infrastructure this growing city needs now and into the future. Through this year’s Budget, the ACT Government is investing in the Territory’s public healthcare system, improving housing choice, access and affordability and supporting cost of living pressures.

Some of the projects funded in Tuggeranong include:

New health centre

A new health centre is coming to South Tuggeranong, providing accessible and timely community-based health care closer to where you live.

The new facility will be designed to have flexible spaces that can be adapted to cater to a range of health services that will be tailored to suit Tuggeranong’s needs.

The health centre will complement existing nurse-led Walk-in Centres, community health centres and maternal and child health services, and help address demand for hospital services.

Upgrades at Calwell High School

Funding has been allocated for planning and improvements to Calwell High School, ensuring this school can continue to cater to students and staff well into the future.

Gowrie Primary School will also benefit from roofing upgrades as part of a broader package of maintenance across ACT public schools.

Improvements at Calwell netball courts

Upgrades will be made to netball courts across the ACT, including the Tuggeranong Netball Association courts in Calwell.

This includes resurfacing and work to prevent future water damage and surface cracking, allowing local netballers to continue play in improved conditions.

Suburban infrastructure upgrades

Community paths as well as walking and cycling routes across Canberra will be improved and upgraded as part of ACT Budget funding.

New funding will also improve water quality and catchment health across the region, including:

  • constructing infrastructure to allow recycled stormwater to be used at playing fields in Kambah and Wanniassa
  • two raised pedestrian crossings will be installed at St Mary MacKillop College in Isabella Plains
  • extending drain naturalisation in Isabella Plains.

Sustainable Household Scheme

Tuggeranong residents will also be able to take advantage of the additional $80 million of funding provided to the highly successful Sustainable Household Scheme.

The Scheme has already seen almost 3500 Tuggeranong households access zero interest loans up to $15,000 across solar, heating and cooling, hot water heat pumps, stove tops and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, battery storage systems, and ceiling insulation.

In this next phase eligibility for solar panels under the Scheme will be rolled back and restricted to homeowners who most need government support.

More mowing services

Extra resources were allocated in 2022-23 to pilot a rapid response mowing team of 10 people and eight additional mowers to increase mowing capacity.

Additional funding will continue this program in 2023-24 to provide more mowing capacity to respond to weather conditions and mowing requests from the community.
