Notify Access Canberra of any long-term or permanent medical issues that may impact your driving.

Did you know if you hold an ACT driver licence you need to notify Access Canberra of any long-term or permanent illness, injury, or incapacity that may impair your driving ability?

This is a legal requirement that helps keep you and everyone else on our roads safe.

Illnesses, injuries or incapacities that you need to declare include:

  • Cardiovascular conditions
  • Dementia
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Blackouts
  • Neurological conditions, like cognitive impairment
  • Musculoskeletal disability, like the loss of a limb
  • Psychiatric conditions
  • Sleep disorders, like sleep apnoea
  • Any other condition your doctor says may impact your ability to drive.

If you become aware of a long-term or permanent medical issue that impairs your ability to drive safely, call Access Canberra on 13 22 81 or email rusmedicals@act.gov.au.

If you have a medical condition and aren’t sure if you need to report it, please call Access Canberra on 13 22 81 or discuss the condition with your medical practitioner.

Let’s all do our part and ‘drive to survive’ on the ACT’s roads. Remember, failure to notify Access Canberra is an offence.
