Construction is underway on Molonglo Valley’s brand-new emergency services station.
The purpose-built facility will be located on Cotter Road, between John Gorton Drive and Steve Irwin Avenue.
Once complete, it will be the largest emergency services station in the ACT.
Facilities and equipment will allow personnel to face the unique challenges in their proximity.
Construction so far
Work on the station is progressing well. So far:
- concrete slabs have been poured
- in-ground services have been installed
- precast wall panels have been installed to the fire truck and ambulance bay areas
- structural steel framing is underway
- the roof has been installed to all buildings.
Once complete, ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue will occupy the station.
In planning the state-of-the-art facility, the design team worked with:
- ACT Ambulance Service
- ACT Fire & Rescue
- ACT ESA enabling services.
Services for a growing population
The new station will ensure essential infrastructure and services keep up with growth in the region.
The Molonglo population is set to increase to about 70,000 people by 2050.
The most recent census, in 2021, found 11,435 people called the region home.
Molonglo Emergency Services Station will provide fire and ambulance services for those living in and visiting:
- Molonglo Valley
- Woden Valley
- Weston Creek
Well located and well equipped
Molonglo Valley is close to both urban and rural properties. It also offers a wide range of outdoor activities.
As well as servicing the local area, the station will:
- be well equipped for rugged nearby destinations, such as Mount Stromlo
- cater to the outdoor enthusiasts these areas attract.
The facility will include a 4x4 all-terrain ambulance. This will increase paramedics’ ability to treat and transport patients from remote areas.
An ACTF&R I-Zone firetruck can provide protection to structures and critical infrastructure on the urban interface during bush and grass fires.
Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
