A green bus stops in a bus interchange.

23 March 2026

In brief:

  • The new Woden Interchange will open to passengers this month.
  • Its features and design will make local bus travel easier, safer and faster.
  • Bus timetables will not change, but platforms will.
  • This article includes more information to know ahead of the opening.

The new Woden Interchange will open to passengers in on 20 April 2026.

The final touches are being applied to the brand-new facility, which will make bus travel to and from Woden easier, safer and faster.

The interchange will service more than 10,000 Canberrans each day.

It is located on Callam Street, a short distance from the new CIT Woden campus and Westfield.

This offers convenience for students, shoppers, workers and the community.

It also marks a major milestone in the ongoing renewal of Woden Town Centre.

Interchange features

The interchange was designed with accessibility and ease in mind.

It features:

  • 10 platforms
  • improved lighting and signage
  • clear sightlines to help passengers navigate the space
  • public toilets
  • drinking fountains
  • secure storage for bikes and e-scooters.

The facility connects directly to improved cycling and pedestrian paths within the CIT Woden precinct.

New trees and landscaping provide shade and create a more comfortable, welcoming environment.

Wider footpaths and accessible routes improve connections to nearby destinations such as Eddison Park and the broader Woden Town Centre.

Rapid buses

Rapid bus services from Belconnen (via the City Interchange and Civic) and Tuggeranong will continue to operate through Woden.

These will run alongside local services connecting:

  • Woden
  • Weston Creek
  • Molonglo Valley
  • Tuggeranong.

No timetable changes

As the new interchange is very close to the temporary one, the timing of bus services will not change. Passengers will need to familiarise themselves with the new platform layout, however.

This will be particularly important for students catching buses in Term 2.

The Transport Canberra website will feature updated platform information ahead of the opening. There will also be school-specific travel packs. These will explain where each service will depart.

Looking to the future

The interchange has been designed to accommodate light rail. Infrastructure is in place for a future terminus when the light rail network extends to Woden.

In the meantime, these platforms are modified for bus use, to ensure the facility is fully operational.

What’s next for the temporary interchange

A temporary Woden bus interchange has been in use while the new facility has been built.

It will remain in place until all buses transition to the new interchange. It will then be decommissioned.

Following this, the cleared site will form part of the planned Woden Village development.

Revitalising Woden

The new interchange strengthens Woden’s role as a growing and connected town centre.

It is the latest part of a re-energised Woden Town Centre which will encourage more people to live, work and play in Woden.

  • More information, including platform maps, updated timetables and school packs ahead of the Term 2 school period, will be available on the Transport Canberra website.
  • More information on the opening of the new Woden Interchange is on the Built for CBR website.
