If you’re interested in the slow and serene hobby of stargazing, there are plenty of places in Canberra that offer workshops, guided tours, and small-group sessions to explore the milky way.
Mount Stromlo Observatory
Mount Stromlo Observatory is the headquarters of the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, a world-respected community of researchers exploring space.
Visitors can see spectacular views over Canberra and the Brindabellas. You can take a guided walking tour of the observatory for a small fee, join a free public stargazing night (booking required), or learn about history, science, and the future of space for free at a public lecture.
Stargazing at Wildbark
Wildbark also host public stargazing nights, in partnership with the Mount Stromlo Observatory.
Guests will admire the craters of the moon, planets, and beautiful stars through powerful telescopes, with the help of the Canberra Astronomical Society.
Attendance is free but bookings are essential.

Guests will enjoy a delicious two-course meal at the Barrack’s Café with an introductory presentation on what to look out for in the night sky, before moving out into the grounds to explore the heavens through powerful telescopes and learn more about the mysteries of the night sky.
