In brief:
- Construction will commence in mid-2026 on the final section of Stage 1 of the Garden City Cycleway.
- The Cycleway provides an important active transport connection to the city.
- Joint funding with the Australian Government was announced last year to deliver Stage 2 of the Cycleway.
Construction will commence in mid-2026 on the next section of the Garden City Cycleway on Cooyong Street in Braddon.
Stage 1D is the final stage of Stage 1, which begins at Torrens Street and runs along Cooyong Street to the Lonsdale Street traffic lights.
The Garden City Cycleway provides a safe cycle route for inner north residents and visitors.
Once Stage 1 is complete, the Cycleway will connect the northern end of Angas Street in Ainslie to the intersection of Lonsdale and Cooyong streets.
From here, cyclists can safely cross Cooyong Street and connect to the Bunda Street shared zone.
Joint funding with the Australian Government was announced last year to deliver Stage 2 of the Cycleway.
Once all stages are complete, it will connect Watson, Downer, Hackett, Dickson, Ainslie and Braddon with the city.
This type of active transport infrastructure offers easier access to schools, local centres and green spaces, helping to promote walking, riding and scooting and get people out of their cars for short trips.
More information on Garden City Cycleway is available on the City Services website.
