Enabling work will make the future construction work safer for workers, as well as path and road users.

04 March 2026

In brief:

  • Enabling works are now complete on the southern section of the Athllon Drive Duplication project.
  • These have prepared the Athllon Drive corridor for the project's main construction.
  • A tender for main construction works will be issued in the coming months.

The Development Application for the Athllon Drive Duplication is now approved.

The Athllon Drive project is the duplication of 2.4 km of the southern section in Tuggeranong, between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive.

This road is a key link connecting Tuggeranong and Woden. The upgrade aims to reduce road congestion between the regions.

Enabling works are complete, including:

  • the widening and lighting of the community path between Atkins Street and Drakeford Drive
  • new footpath connections
  • upgrade of minor paths.

Utility enabling works are also complete.

A tender for main construction works will be issued in the coming months, with that work expected to start later this year.

The Athllon Drive Duplication project

Athllon Drive is a vital road for people living in Canberra's south.

Two rapid bus routes, cyclists and around 2,000 vehicles currently use this road every hour during peak periods.

The duplication will:

  • improve travel times for all transport modes
  • improve safety for walking, cycling, public transport and driving
  • not preclude light rail which may be constructed in this transport corridor in the future.
