The giant magpie sculpture, by artist Yanni Pounartzis, with the help of sculptor Gustavo Balboa and fiberglasser Stuart Rowsell at Bloodhound FX, was made possible by the City Renewal Authority’s Placemaking Grants program.
The Placemaking Grants program supports the vitality of Canberra’s City Centre through creative and engaging place-making initiatives that strengthen our community’s connection to public spaces and encourage habitual visitation.
Urban artworks like Big Swoop contribute to creating public spaces where people want to meet and develop new social connections, and in that respect, Big Swoop has been a big success in helping activate Garema Place.
Proud Canberrans and collectors can get their very own Big Swoop coin and stamp as part of the collection from the Canberra GPO on Alinga Street, or online.
