The City Renewal Authority Precinct has been expanded slightly to include Section 72, Dickson which will enable it to coordinate future redevelopment east of Dickson Group Centre in an integrated way.

Section 72, Dickson is bounded by Antill Street, Cowper Street and Hawdon Place. Existing uses include the Dickson Aquatic Centre, some vacant land, the Common Ground housing, hotel, and a range of community facilities.

The Authority's first step will be to examine short and long-term place renewal strategies and opportunities for the future development of the area, which will build on historical community feedback as well as new engagement activities.

A key focus will be access to and links with community services in the area, such as the Dickson Aquatic Centre and Common Ground, through to the Dickson Shops and public transport interchange.

Established in 2017, the City Renewal Authority is charged with shaping the growth of the central parts of Canberra to make it a great place to live, work, explore and enjoy. In partnership with the community, the Authority aims to create a liveable city heart through design-led urban renewal with a focus on social and environmental sustainability.

This decision to extend the Authority's precinct was made in accordance with the City Renewal Authority and Suburban Development Act 2017 and has been notified in the ACT Legislation Register.

The ACT Government has already delivered the Common Ground housing project in this location, which has been praised for its architecture and social outcomes. Dickson Pool plays a critical role in the area and will remain in place.

Future projects in this area will be subject to budget funding.
