A new community centre will open in Haig Park in the coming month, providing a shared space for creativity, learning, physical activity, and connection.
The idea for the centre – which was planted by the community during a public consultation – has now grown into an accessible and versatile community resource.
City Renewal Authority Acting CEO Craig Gillman said the centre is befitting of the beautiful Haig Park location and will support economic activity in Braddon.
“This community-driven initiative will breathe new life into Haig Park and have important flow-on impacts for local business,” Mr Gillman said.
“Nestled among the trees, the centre repurposed the park’s 1950s depot shed with a superb facility featuring multiple meeting rooms and communal spaces.
“The City Renewal Authority looks forward to an exciting program of activities in the centre.”

With Haig Park turning 100 this year, the new community centre is a timely initiative to build on the park’s ongoing evolution into a popular space for locals and visitors.
Recent events, such as the Great Haig Park Water Fight and Jurassic Haig Park, have seen kids and families attend the park in their thousands.
It also comes ahead of a streetscape upgrade which will better connect the Braddon precinct to Haig Park via a new pedestrian crossing.
Northside Community Service will run a community welcome day and community BBQ in the coming month.
