La Fiesta delivers Latin celebration in City West

City Renewal Authority / 13 Oct 2023

About 5000 people have attended a pulsating celebration of Latin American music, art and culture in City West.

The City Renewal Authority’s inaugural La Fiesta took place in the charming Latin American Plaza, where people were treated to beautiful weather, authentic Latin food and more than 70 live musicians.

The Authority’s CEO Malcolm Snow said the event was an opportunity for locals and visitors to experience rich Latin American culture in the City Centre.

“La Fiesta saw City West come to life with people relaxing in the park, enjoying food and drink and dancing to traditional and modern sounds of Latin America,” Mr Snow said.

“We also heard from nearby businesses who said it was the busiest they have ever been, highlighting how these events can bring people together and create a thriving local economy.”

“Thank you to the embassies, organisations and event organisers who helped make this such a special community event.”

Festival Curator Frank Madrid said the event made it easier for locals and visitors to ‘join in the fun’ and discover Latin American culture.

“La Fiesta brought a diverse crowd of people together to enjoy some high calibre performances,” Mr Madrid said.

“These types of events contribute to social cohesion by celebrating who we are and where we come from – so it was great to see people of all ages and backgrounds revelling in the atmosphere.

“It has inspired me to think about how we could do an even bigger and better event in 2024, working further with local embassies and even attracting international musicians.” Stay tuned.
