An ACT Government Website

We are improving health system performance to provide better healthcare in the community. We are focusing on keeping people healthier for longer and reducing the pressure on hospitals.

These changes improve the way people experience health, aged care, disability and mental health services.

National Health Reform Agreement

The National Health Reform Agreement improves national health outcomes. It sets out how governments work together to provide high-quality services and make sure Australia’s health system is sustainable.

Healthcare governance

Local Hospital Networks is set up as part of the National Health Reform Agreement. It is an organisation that improves the governance of health services.

The network makes hospitals:

  • responsive to the needs of the community
  • accountable for treatment outcomes
  • deliver services based on the needs of the local community
  • accountable to improve their performance.

A service level agreement sets out the volumes and types of services that will be delivered, which outlines:

  • what services they provide
  • the quality of services they provide
  • the standard of service for the services they deliver
  • funding for different services
  • the teaching, training and research they undertake.

Local Hospital Network organisations

Organisations that are part of the ACT Local Hospital Network are:

  • ACT Health Directorate for public health and preventative health services
  • Canberra Health Services including North Canberra Hospital
  • Private Provider Program, set up to deliver public elective surgery services
  • Tresillian Family Care Centres for Queen Elizabeth II Family Centre.
