A significant milestone has been reached in the revitalisation of Telstra Tower.

The ACT Government has signed a Heads of Agreement with Telstra. This paves the way for the next stage of planning and development for the tower.

The agreement marks an important step in transforming Telstra Tower into a renewed tourist attraction.

This follows the National Capital Authority granting conditional works approval for a change of use and key design elements.

A renewed destination for locals and visitors

Telstra Tower is an iconic landmark. The revitalisation will help strengthen Canberra's tourism and gives locals a place to connect with local history and culture.

The Heads of Agreement sets the framework needed to progress the detailed planning for the tower. This will inform final decisions including:

• visitor experiences
• community spaces
• supporting infrastructure.

The vision for the Tower is centred around four defining themes:

• the cultural significance of Black Mountain and its surrounds
• Canberra's contemporary character
• the story of the tower
• Australia's telecommunications history.

The ACT Government is working with the Ngunnawal community and other stakeholders to make sure local culture, and stories are incorporated in the tower's transformation.

The tower is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2027/28.
