CIT Yurauna

Yurauna is the CIT's dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educational Centre of Excellence, providing tailored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander courses, study support and cultural advice. CIT Yurauna will move from Reid Campus to Bruce in 2026 in a new purpose-built facility.

The name Yurauna is a Wiradjuri word meaning 'to grow'. The centre supports students with reading, writing, job skills, and more. It also celebrates and keeps Indigenous culture strong, offering diverse courses beyond vocational training. This includes art and cultural activities, empowering Indigenous communities, and preserving culture.

The new Yurauna building will feature culturally sensitive spaces, including:

  • Art rooms
  • Meeting spaces
  • Childcare facilities
  • Quiet rooms
  • Areas for activities like sewing, dancing, storytelling, and learning languages.
  • A series of co-design workshops was led by a team including local and First Nations architects and team with representatives from the Ngunnawal community including Ngunnawal Elders. The workshops informed the design concept and produced a culturally appropriate design for all building users including students, teachers and community groups.

The CIT Yurauna project was awarded to BYCC Alliance, a First Nations company, in partnership with Guida Mosely Brown Architects and Kaunitz Yeung.
