Canberra’s most popular baby names for 2025 have been revealed.

Longtime favourites have continued their run in the top 10 baby names, with Evelyn and Oliver taking the top spots.

While Oliver has been at the top of the list a few times, it is the first time Evelyn has been the most popular girl name.

Top girl names

Evelyn has taken the top spot for the first time but isn’t a new favourite. The name has appeared in the top 10 in six previous lists, taking 5^th place last year.

Last year’s number one, Amelia, remained in the top 10 at number nine. The name has been in the top 10 since 2011.

Hazel and Grace rounded out the top three girl names, with Charlotte and Lily sharing 4^th place.

Hazel has jumped to popularity at number two this year after not appearing in last year’s top 10.

Grace and Charlotte have stood the test of time. Grace has appeared on the list 24 times since 1995, and Charlotte extends her streak of being in the top 10 since 2003.

Lily made a return to the top 10 for the first time since 2012.

Olivia, which shared 6^th place this year with Isla and Matilda, has appeared in every top 10 (except for 2016) since 1998.

Top boy names

Oliver has made a return as the most popular boy name in 2025.

The name previously topped the list in 2022, 2019 and 2010 and has been in the top 10 since 2008.

Henry, the second most popular boy name, has also remained in the top 10 since 2014, and topped the list in 2023 and 2021.

The two names occupied the top two positions since 2021, before Noah topped the list for the first time in 2024.

Noah placed third on the list this year and has been in the top 10 since 2017.

Levi, Elijah and Oscar rounded out the top five. Levi and Elijah have both appeared in the top 10 just once before, tying 10^th place in 2022.

As of 15 December, there were 6039 births registered in the ACT for 2025. This is comparable with 6085 registered in 2024.
