Two dedicated obstetric operating theatre suites and a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit will open soon at Canberra Hospital.

They will feature:

  • a new eight-bay recovery area
  • a holding area
  • smart LED operating lights
  • medication rooms
  • storage areas
  • a scrub bay.

Empty hospital room with a single bed, medical equipment, and various monitoring devices.

Enhancing Canberra Health Services’ maternity care

Having dedicated obstetric theatres close to Centenary Hospital for Women and Children supports efficient and timely emergency care.

It allows for rapid access to theatres for emergency interventions and quick transport of mothers and babies in need, minimising potential complications.

Nurse and midwife to patient ratios will be introduced into operating theatres and maternity wards at North Canberra and Canberra Hospital later this year.

This will support safe nursing and midwifery care and improved outcomes for patients.
