The 2026–2027 ACT Budget will support a range of tourism and events initiatives.

The ACT Government expects these initiatives to grow Canberra’s visitor economy by up to $1 billion by 2030.

Funding will be invested over four years and will:

• increase visitor activity and spending
• strengthen Canberra’s national and international profile
• support local jobs across tourism, hospitality and events.

Where will the funding go?

The ACT Government will invest in attracting more major events to Canberra. This will increase the number of visitors, fill hotels and boost both the hospitality and retail sectors.

The ACT’s Major Event Fund will expand. This will help build a stronger events pipeline all year round, which will showcase Canberra to national and global audiences.

The Budget also includes funding for destination marketing. This will support targeted efforts to promote Canberra among key domestic and international markets.

Floriade will expand in 2027 – its 40th anniversary. Opening hours will extend, encouraging people to stay longer.

Key ACT venues will be upgraded to support better events. These include:

• GIO Stadium
• EPIC
• the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Key city‑shaping projects will progress with support from this year’s Budget. These include:

• the new National Convention and Entertainment Centre
• the 2,000-seat Lyric Theatre, opening in 2028.

Budget funding will also secure international cricket fixtures for both men’s and women’s competitions, right here in Canberra.
