Project History

2018

The ACT Government announced the location for the new Critical Services Building on the north-east side of Canberra Hospital campus in December 2018. Various sites were considered, with the location chosen based on consideration of the space available on campus, linkages to existing services and the ability to keep all clinical services open during construction.

2019

The ACT Government approved the new facility in May 2019. The planning of the new facility was informed by analysis, studies and other activities undertaken in previous years.

On 1 July 2019, Major Projects Canberra was formed to lead the procurement and delivery of the Territory’s infrastructure program. The Canberra Hospital Expansion Project is a designated project for Major Projects Canberra, working with ACT Health and Canberra Health Services to deliver the new facility.
