What we do

The role of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer includes:

  • Improving the organisation, culture and processes in health care
  • Keep track of how well the system works and if it is safe.
  • Creating plans and rules about healthcare delivery. This includes deciding on the best way to treat different health problems.
  • Focusing on increasing high value care
  • Advising on quality assurance
  • Advising on ways to improve health care delivery
  • Promoting an improvement culture
  • Supporting national projects and committees
  • Working to increase doctor numbers and doctor wellbeing

Our services

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jodi Glading, is an expert in clinical governance, safety and quality, medical workforce, and incident management. She provides advice to Ministers, leaders of the Health Directorate and other key people.

The Clinical System Governance Unit sits within the Office of the Chief Medical Office. Unit members help by giving advice on medical matters, patients safety, and workforce. The teams also provide support for safety and quality committees.

Advisory councils and reference groups

ACT Clinical System Governance Committee

This committee helps the ACT health system to ensure safe, effective, person-centred health care happens across the whole healthcare system.

The Chief Medical Officer is the Chair.

The Ms Linda Trompf is the Deputy Chair.

The Chair sits on the ACT Health System Council.

ACT Safety and Quality Leadership Network

This network evaluates that safe, effective, person-centred health care is delivered while creating a learning culture.

The Senior Director, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, ACT Health Directorate is the Chair.

ACT and Region Infection Prevention and Control Network

This network aims to reduce infections connected with healthcare in all health care settings across the ACT and surrounding region.

The ACT Chief Medical Officer appoints the Chair.

ACT Medical Workforce Advisory Committee

This Committee investigates ways to improve the wellbeing and attract and retain more doctors.

The ACT Chief Medical Officer is the Chair.

ACT Health Professional Colleges Advisory Committee

This Committee gains Professional Colleges’ thoughts on ACT workforce culture and wellbeing.

The ACT Chief Medical Officer is the Chair.
