An ACT Government Website

Before your first placement with Canberra Health Services, you must go to the security office at Canberra Hospital to collect your ACT Health identification card.

Cards are issued no sooner than two weeks before your placement is due to commence.

You will be given access to your placement location. The cards are electronically monitored and will be activated during placement only.

You must clearly display your identification and introduce yourself as a student during your placement.

How to collect your card

You'll need to show 3 forms of identification such as:

  • driver licence
  • student card
  • Medicare care
  • credit card
  • passport.

The security office will do an identification check, take you photo and will issue your ID access card.

Returning cards

All cards need to be returned to the Canberra Hospital security desk on the last day of placement unless you have multiple placements.

Returning students can keep their cards until their final placement is complete.

Student types

Nursing and midwifery students

If you are a local student, cards are to be collected no earlier than two weeks before placement.

If you are an interstate student, you should collect your cards on the first day of placement.

Returning students who have multiple placements can keep their cards until the completion of their final placement. Cards will be activated electronically once students have been allocated placements.

Lost and expired cards

Contact the security office if you have lost or need to change your card, or if it's not working.

You will be required to complete a RiskMan report with your ward supervisor.
