You must have a tuberculosis (TB) screening test before you start your clinical placement.

A negative screening test is current if the test was performed within the previous 3 years or at least 3 months following a potential exposure or at risk activity, whichever is less.

If you have travelled to high TB endemic countries for periods of 3 months or more, you are required to have repeat screening.

Evidence of immunity

Evidence of TB immunity may be either an:

  • Interferon Gamma Release Assay – TB Quantiferon blood test - you'll need a GP referral
  • or tuberculin skin test which has been completed at an accredited chest clinic.

Other vaccines

A tuberculin skin test cannot be performed within 4 weeks of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) or Varicella vaccine.  You must attend TB screening before MMR vaccination.
