- The northside hospital is one of several health infrastructure projects set to benefit Canberrans.
Multiplex has been appointed the early delivery partner for the new northside hospital.
The company will support continued work on the project design and planning required to begin construction.
The Northside Hospital Project will transform the existing North Canberra Hospital campus in Bruce.
It will be the largest health infrastructure project ever undertaken in the ACT and will deliver a new state-of-the-art hospital for Canberra’s north.
The ACT Government and Multiplex partnered to deliver the Canberra Hospital Expansion in Garran.
Very Early Contractor Involvement
A competitive tender was undertaken in 2024 to secure a contractor early in the process.
This built on the Early Contractor Involvement approach taken in the Canberra Hospital Expansion project.
Very Early Contractor Involvement brings the delivery team together with the planning and design experts, on the ground sooner.
This helps frame a vision for innovation, sustainability and clinical service delivery.
As the successful tenderer, Multiplex will ensure the best advice is available to inform infrastructure planning and design for the new hospital.
The ACT Government and Multiplex will collaborate with consumers, carers and the health workforce to design high-quality hospital facilities as part of the Very Early Contractor Involvement contract.
The next phase of community consultation is expected to take place in mid-2025.
About Multiplex
Multiplex has extensive hospital construction experience.
It has completed key health projects across Australia, including:
- Canberra Hospital’s Critical Services Building
- greenfield developments
- research facilities
- major site refurbishments.
As delivery partners, Multiplex takes a holistic approach. It collaborates with clients early in the design and planning phase to bring construction expertise to the table.
“Having delivered the University of Canberra Public Hospital in 2017 and the Canberra Hospital Expansion in 2024, we are eager to reconnect with the community and will be implementing specific initiatives to support local employment and training," Multiplex NSW/ACT Regional Managing Director David Ghannoum said.
More healthcare options for Canberrans
The new hospital will be delivered alongside a number of other health infrastructure projects.
The transformation of the Canberra Hospital campus will continue, through the Canberra Hospital Master Plan.
Several community health infrastructure projects are also underway. These include:
- the new South Tuggeranong, Inner South, North Gungahlin and West Belconnen Health Centres
- the new health precinct in Watson
- the Southside hydrotherapy pool in Tuggeranong.
These new and upgraded facilities will give Canberra’s growing community access to services in modern and sustainable health settings.
Business as usual at North Canberra Hospital
While planning work progresses, services will continue as usual at North Canberra Hospital.
The safety, health and wellbeing of consumers, visitors and staff remain the top priority.
