Garran Primary School expansion and modernisation

Funding: over $63.3 million

As Woden grows, the upgrades will help meet the demand for enrolment in the region.

This project is part of a larger, $800 million investment in public school infrastructure across the territory. A staged approach has been developed for the construction works. This will allow learning to continue onsite as usual during the construction phase. It will also reduce the impact on parking and ensure the site's surrounding area is safe for students, families and members of the public.

Colin Joss & Co Pty Ltd is the head Contractor for the Garran Primary School modernisation project and worked with Hayball Architecture to complete the final designs.

In mid 2024, the project received Development Application and Building Application approvals allowing site establishment and Stage One construction activities to get underway. Construction fencing is in place around the site and we ask the community to follow all wayfinding signage to ensure the safety of students, families, staff, visitors and the community.

Some non-regulated tree removal was necessary during the initial site establishment activities, however, a greater number of new trees will be planted once the project is more progressed.

The first stage of the Garran Primary School modernisation project which involves the construction of the new school campus and preschool is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. The second stage of the project will involve demolishing the old school building and building new external learning play spaces and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
