There are more than 70 notifiable conditions in the ACT.

Known cases of these conditions or diseases must be reported to the Chief Health Officer (CHO). This is required under the Public Health Act 1997.

Certain groups of people must notify the CHO of any person who they believe may have a notifiable condition. These groups include:

  • doctors
  • authorised nurse practitioners
  • pathologists
  • hospital managers
  • carers, counsellors, support workers and educators.

If you’re concerned you may have a notifiable condition, talk to your GP (general practitioner).

Current notifiable conditions

A current list of notifiable conditions in the ACT is in Appendix 1 of the Reporting of Notifiable Conditions Code of Practice 2026.
