Older adults and flu vaccines

If you are 65 years or older the flu vaccine is government funded and strongly recommended. There is an age-specific influenza vaccine that is designed specifically to provide increased protection against influenza for older people.

Older adults are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu compared to young, healthy adults. This is partly because our immune defences become weaker as we age.

Residents, staff and visitors in aged care settings should have the influenza vaccine every year to reduce the risk of catching and spreading the virus.
