Counterfeit rabies vaccine reported in India
The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has issued a statement (19 December 2025) for travellers and health care providers about counterfeit (fake) rabies vaccine in India.
You may need replacement rabies vaccine doses if you:
- received rabies vaccine in India from 1 November 2023 onwards, AND
- were administered one or more doses of Abhayrab® or the vaccine brand administered is unknown.
If you think you may have received counterfeit rabies vaccine in India, you should call the Health and Community Services Directorate (Public Health Response Unit) on 02 5124 9213 or contact your healthcare provider.
