Planning System Review and Reform – Draft District Strategies

Cabinet agreed to the release of nine district strategies for public consultation.

District strategies will implement broader government policies and strategic directions from the Wellbeing Framework, the ACT Planning Strategy and other policies at the district level. The metropolitan scale of planning is already addressed by the ACT Planning Strategy. District strategies will provide another level of detail in planning. District strategies will reflect current government policy and identify how, where and what growth might occur in the ACT and Canberra, and what is required to support this change.

Planning System Review and Reform – Draft new Territory Plan

Cabinet agreed to the release of the draft new Territory Plan, Supporting Report, Design Guides Explanation of Intended Effects, Technical Specifications and other supporting explanatory material for statutory public consultation.

The new Territory Plan will positively impact the wellbeing of the Canberra community and environment through the delivery of development considerations that support and enhance the Territory’s liveability and prosperity and promotes the well-being of residents. The new Territory Plan helps to deliver a planning system that focuses on good outcomes for the Territory and facilitates ecologically sustainable development that is consistent with planning strategies and policies.
