Summary of Cabinet outcomes
As part of the ACT Government’s Open Government commitment, this document is a public summary of matters considered by Cabinet. It is not intended to be a detailed set of minutes and does not cover all matters considered by Cabinet. Among matters not covered are materials considered in the formation of the ACT budget, commercial and industrial matters under negotiation, as well as matters that would impact personal privacy, security and the ACT economy. Nothing in this document can be considered a waiver of the Government’s executive privilege.
Government Submission to Public Accounts Committee on Auditor- General’s Report No. 6, 2012 - Emergency Department Performance Information
Cabinet agreed the ACT Government Submission to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts Inquiry into Auditor-General’s Report No. 6 of 2012: Emergency Department Performance Information and to provide a copy of the Submission to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
The Auditor-General’s report makes ten recommendations, of which all are agreed. The Government Submission will be publicly available following consideration by the Standing Committee.
Government Response to Select Committee on the Inquiry into Election Commitments Costing Bill 2011 Exposure Draft
Cabinet agreed the ACT Government Response to recommendations made by the Select Committee on the Election Commitments Costing Bill 2011 Exposure Draft. Cabinet also agreed amendments to the Election Commitments Costing Bill 2012 and supporting Guidelines for Costing Election Commitments 2012 as a result of recommendations made by the Select Committee and legal advice received from the Solicitor-General.
The Bill formalises the election commitments costing process through legislation. The Government Response, Guidelines and Amended Bill will be available on the Treasury Directorate website once tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
University of Canberra – finalisation of commercial arrangements for first tranche student accommodation loan facility
Cabinet agreed to the terms of a credit facility for the University of Canberra for the design and construction of the first tranche of new on-campus student accommodation. Details of the agreement including information on the accommodation project and the University’s Development Application are available on the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate Website
Aboriginal Justice Agreement Report Card
Cabinet considered the two-year Report Card on the Aboriginal Justice Agreement. Cabinet agreed to table the Report Card in the ACT Legislative Assembly. The Report Card can be found on the Justice and Community Safety Directorate website
Government Position on Private Members Business - Water and Sewerage Regulation (Water Heaters) Amendment Bill and Planning and Development (Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets) Amendment Bill 2012
Cabinet agreed the Government Position on the Private Member’s Bills: Water and Sewerage regulation (Water Heaters) Amendment Bill 2012 and Planning and Development (Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets) Amendment Bill 2012, as presented by Ms Le Couteur MLA on 6 June 2012.
Motion by leave - apology to people affected by past practices of forced adoption
Cabinet agreed the Assembly motion calling on the Government to apologise on behalf of the ACT Legislative Assembly and the community to those ACT residents who have been affected by past practices of forced adoption. The apology was moved as a motion in the Legislative Assembly on 14 August 2012. Details of the apology are available on the Community Services Directorate website
Appointments
ACT Professional Standards Council
Cabinet agreed to endorse appointments to the ACT Professional Standards Council, subject to Standing Committee consultation.
Public Trustee Investment Board
Cabinet agreed to endorse the re-appointment of Mr Patrick McAuliffe as a part time member of the Public Trustee Investment Board. Cabinet also agreed to endorse a further appointment to the Board, subject to Standing Committee consultation.
