Eligible Visa Holders

Eligible visa holders

Only eligible visa holders can access an Australian Apprenticeship, Skilled Capital or Skills Canberra grants program training place.

In addition to the eligible visa subclasses below, secondary holders (family members of primary visa holders) of these visa subclasses are eligible for 2025-26 Skilled Capital training places and Skills Canberra grants program places only:

  • 188 - Business innovation and investment (temporary)
  • 457 - Temporary work (skilled)
  • 482 - Temporary skills shortage.

Visas are subject to change at any time by the Australian Government.

For any other visa type, the registered training organisation must ensure the holder has work and study rights on a pathway to permanent residency and seek confirmation from Skills Canberra in writing prior to student enrolment (Skilled Capital and Skills Canberra grants program) or establishing a training contract (Australian Apprenticeship). These visas will be investigated and approved on a case-by-case basis.

If the visa type is not in either list or you have further questions please email Skills Canberra.
