What we do

We lead the ACT's strategy to use digital technology and data to help Canberra grow as an inclusive, progressive and connected city.

We are responsible for policies and guidelines to help the ACT Government:

• capture, protect, use and share data safely to make decisions that improve the wellbeing of Canberrans
• design digital services to achieve better results for government and the community
• invest in digital technology that makes government more efficient and connects community services.

We also look after the ACT Government’s:

• cyber security and information and communications technology (ICT) policies and standards
• ICT infrastructure and services for the ACT public service, ACT Government schools and Canberra Institute of Technology.

Our services

• ACT Digital Account for Canberrans to apply and pay for some ACT Government services using a single account.
• ACT Government Open Data Portal to find, use and share data from the ACT.
• CBR free wi-fi is the ACT’s free public wi-fi network.

Policies and guides

• Guiding Best Practice Design and Delivery [PDF 853 kB]: how we design digital services using human-centred principles to achieve better outcomes for government and the community.
• ACT Government Technology Directions 2023­–25: technology investment guidelines and principles to help the ACT Government provide consistent services to the community.
• ACT Data Governance Management Policy Framework and Guide: the Framework and the Guide helps staff capture, protect, use and share data. They support consistent data governance and management practice across ACT Government.
• ACT Data Sharing Policy commits the ACT Government to share data where it is safe, legal, and ethical to share. The Policy supports staff to do this through a data sharing memorandum of understanding and a data sharing agreement template.

Advisory councils and reference groups

• Digital Services Governance Committee: provides strategic direction, leadership and advice on the development and management of our information and technology assets. The Committee has representatives from all directorates and meets monthly.
• Data Steering Committee: provides strategic direction, leadership and advice on the development and management of our data assets. The Committee has representatives from all directorates and meets every 6 weeks.
