Future of Education Strategy

The Future of Education Strategy is an ACT education strategy for 2018 to 2028. The strategy wants all students, in every school, to have better education.

Summary

The Future of Education Strategy focuses on:

• placing each student at the centre of their learning
• empowering teachers and other professionals to strengthen learning for all
• creating strong communities for learning
• strengthening the system to focus on equity and quality.

The strategy has 4 foundations and 4 principles that guide its implementation roadmap.

We’re implementing the strategy in phases:

• Phase 1 is complete
• Phase 2 is being evaluated
• Phase 3 is in development.

Phase 1 implementation

Actions and commitments in the first phase focused on 6 priorities:

• strengthening inclusive education
• giving students more of a say
• supporting a workforce of the future
• community schools
• giving young people the best start
• focus the system on what matters most.

Phase 2 implementation

We built our second implementation plan on what we learned from the first. We set new goals and priorities for:

• student wellbeing
• equity, inclusion and access
• agency for all student.

Main aims included:

• strengthening inclusive education
• expanding of equity grants to help low income families
• making sure families have access to the internet when they need it
• making it easier for people to attend vocational education and training
• working with service and community partners to help children and young people move from one stage of their life to another.

Phase 3 implementation

Phase 3 implementation is in development.

Community consultation and research

In February 2017, we started talking with people in our community about how education should change. Over the next 16 months, more than 5,000 people gave us their ideas.

We also considered the results of a research report into student-centred learning approaches.

We used all information to develop our Future of Education Strategy.
