Managing construction impacts

Noise and vibration are a normal part of construction projects, especially during activities like excavation and earthworks, and when using equipment like jackhammers and concrete saws.

While noise and vibration are unavoidable, we implement measures to reduce the impact.

Light Rail Stage 2A is being built in an urban environment, with noise from road traffic and city sounds already shaping the area.

Construction will add occasional intrusive noise, but we take steps to reduce its impact.

Work hours and scheduling

Most construction will take place during standard hours:

To ensure worker safety and prevent major traffic disruptions, some work will happen outside regular hours, including early mornings or nighttime. Night works require additional assessment and approval.

We notify affected residents and businesses before all scheduled works. Subscribe here for updates.

Minimising noise and light

Noise reduction was a key focus in the Environmental Assessment for Light Rail Stage 2A, City to Commonwealth Park. We use several noise mitigation strategies, including:

Monitors are placed throughout the area to track noise and vibration levels.

We also take steps to reduce light spill impacts, such as turning off equipment when it is not in use and making sure machinery lights are directed away from premises.
