Disruption Taskforce

To manage impacts during the construction of light rail, the ACT Government has formed a multi-agency Disruption Taskforce to oversee the delivery of a comprehensive disruption management strategy. This will involve working closely with the local community, business and government representatives to develop and implement effective mitigations.

Early traffic analysis indicates that without intervention, construction impacts will lead to congestion and delays, with flow-on impacts across the entire road and public transport network.

The ACT Government is currently scoping physical traffic interventions and route diversions which can help keep traffic moving during the construction period.

We will also be delivering a behaviour change campaign asking Canberrans to Rethink your route. Rethink your routine. This will encourage greater uptake of alternatives like public transport and active travel to help relieve road congestion. The government is currently considering supporting initiatives that will make it easier for Canberrans to change how they travel, such as providing more Park and Ride facilities and expanding bus priority lanes to cut public transport travel times.

More information on these initiatives will be provided as the Disruption Taskforce’s work takes shape over the coming months.
