- Site investigations, including survey work, started on 16 March 2026.
- There are no expected traffic impacts for now.
- We will inform the community before any works that may cause disruption begin.
- Once the design is complete and funding is confirmed, the ACT Government will engage a contractor to build the facility.
Overview
The District Playing Fields will be built on the site where the Home of Football was planned to be built.
The ACT Government reviewed the Throsby Home of Football after Capital Football decided to withdraw from the project. A decision was made to deliver District Playing Fields instead.
The design for the Throsby District Playing Fields will include sportsground fields that can accommodate a range of sports such as rugby league, rugby union, football, and cricket. The sports/clubs that will be prioritised to hire the new sportsgrounds will be determined during the detailed design phase of the project.
Part of the site will remain free of any sporting infrastructure during the initial construction stage. Additional sporting facilities could possibly be delivered there in the future.
When the detailed design is finished, a contractor will be engaged to construct the facility.
Project benefits:
The new Throsby District Playing Fields will:
- service the growing Gungahlin region
- provide sporting groups and the local community with sporting and community facilities
- support a diverse range of health and recreational activities
- when not being formally used by the sports community, provide an informal sport and recreation space for nearby residents.
