ACT Corrective Services Blueprint for Change
Summary
In early 2021, a committee was established to oversee the development of a Blueprint for Change for the operations of the Alexander Maconochie Centre and the Court Transport Unit.
The Committee undertook a broad-based investigation into staffing-related matters.
In April 2022, the Committee released their final report: A new Future for custodial Services.
The report outlined 6 key findings and 15 recommendations for action. The recommendations focus on addressing the most concerning and urgent issues identified by staff including:
- staff resource level
- culture
- management skills
- the safety environment
- training and development
- detainee tension.
ACTCS established a program of work to progress the findings and recommendations in the report.
In January 2025, ACTCS released an evaluation report on the Blueprint for Change Program. The evaluation shows improvement in the culture and work environment for ACTCS custodial officers. It also presents opportunities for improvement that will guide future work and ensure positive changes are sustained for the future.
