ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan

Summary

We are committed to a health-based approach to improve treatment outcomes and support for individuals, families and carers experiencing alcohol, tobacco and other drug related harms.

To guide this approach, we launched the ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan 2022-2026, building on and replacing the ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan 2018-2021 to further strengthen the alcohol, tobacco and other drugs sector and improve the wellbeing of the Canberra community.

The action plan outlines our and whole of sector priorities to address and minimise harms from alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs and non-medical use of pharmaceuticals in the territory from 2022 to 2026. It will support Canberrans by focusing on improved service navigation, stigma reduction and supports for individuals with co-occurring issues.

The action plan aligns with the framework provided by the National Drug Strategy 2017-2026 and describes the territory’s priorities and activities to be progressed within the context of national action.

The progress of the action plan is formally reported through a mid-point progress report to identify changed priorities, emerging issues or challenges. The action plan will undergo a formal review after the end of its life cycle, with findings fed back to the sector and across government.

Previous drug strategy action plans

We released the final progress report for the ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan 2018-2021. The report highlights the constructive steps taken by government, non-government organisations and private providers to implement the 43 actions contained in the plan.

We also released a policy review of the ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan 2018-2021. This review examines the first action plans on harm minimisation in the ACT between 2018 and 2021.

The review was collaboratively produced with stakeholders from the alcohol and other drug sector and provided guidance for the development of the second action plan, to further prevent and minimise alcohol, tobacco and other drug related harm.
